2025-2026 MONTHLY PROGRAMS   

On the second Tuesday of each month the Garden Club enjoys an educational session plus gathers to discuss local city gardening projects, floral design ideas, and what's growing in our gardens.

  

September: Dahlias!

Alanah Lawrason of Foggy Hill Farm

Alanah will be bringing samples of Dahlias she is growing for production. She will talk about tips and tricks for growing this popular flower in the pacific northwest.   

 

October:  Ciscoe Morris, legendary gardener, author, and media personality  

Ciscoe will be giving us tips for fall gardening as well as ideas for great fall plants. His talk will be followed up by a question-and-answer session and then a book signing.  


November: Native Plants

Hannah Andersen, Education and Outreach Coordinator, WICD

Hannah will discuss reading native plants to better understand terrain, useful plantings to adapt to seasonal wet and dry conditions, and the significance of preserving native plant systems for the future. 


December: Holiday potluck and celebration 


January: 100 Years of Farming on Whidbey Island

Shelley Muzzal, Muzzal Family Farms/3 Sisters Market

This month’s presentation will focus on the history of over 100 years of farming on North Whidbey.


Plus: Garden tools

Don Robertson, Home Depot Garden Center team 

Don has been a Master Gardener since 2000 and is currently part of Home Depot Garden Center team. He will bring with him and share the uses of various garden tools.


February: Before You Call the Landscaper or Garden Designer

June Davis, Certified Professional Horticulturist (CPH) Instructor 

June will discuss the elements that make a garden a delightful place, choosing plants that mature gracefully, hardscape that showcases plants, and ways to avoid costly mistakes.


March: Bonsai

Henry Vanden Haak, The Greenhouse Florists & Nursery in Oak Harbor

Henry grew up in a Garden Nursery Family. He had a talent in landscape, when he discovered that rather than working large scale, he could do the same thing in a dish or pot, Bonsai became his focus!


April: How to Prune…so you don’t have to prune so often. 

Christina Pfeiffer, Seattle based author and Horticulture Educator 

Christina brings practical experience and current research to her presentations.  Tuned into the art and science of horticulture, her work centers on sustainable techniques and timing that taps into the cycle of the seasons so our efforts become more of an enjoyable experience and less of a battle.  


May: Fieldtrip to Meerkerk Gardens

We will be taken on a docent guided tour of Whidbey Island’s premier rhododendron garden where pathways treat you to views of rhododendron, azalea and specimen trees.


June:   End of year picnic at Cranberry Lake in Deception Pass Park

With a presentation by the Oak Harbor Arts Commission


July/August: No meetings. Summer break
